Why Apprenticeships Matter in Cybersecurity
Most of our team began their journeys with us as apprentices, continuing their employment long-term, thanks to our supportive and growth-oriented working environment. With a high retention rate, our apprenticeship and development model stands as a testament to our commitment to career development. Our commitment to apprenticeships is evident throughout our team. For example, Joe and Chris are nearing the end of their apprenticeships, whilst several of our senior team members, including Technical Director Matt, Chief Technologist Jamie, and Chief Data Analyst Paul, have already completed their apprenticeship programmes.
Meet Our Apprentices
Joe & Chris – Finishing Their Apprenticeships
Joe and Chris are nearing the completion of their apprenticeships, having gained invaluable real-world experience throughout their time with CTRL-S. Joe is working towards his Level 3 Information Communications Technician certification, while Chris is working through his Level 3 Data Technician certification. Their journeys highlight the effectiveness of apprenticeships in developing both technical skills and confidence in handling IT challenges. As they transition into full-time roles, with Chris as a data analyst and Joe as a technologist, they serve as prime examples of how apprenticeships lead to long-term career success.
Marcus – Halfway Through His Apprenticeship
Marcus is at the midpoint of his Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship, steadily gaining expertise while applying his knowledge in a practical setting. With ongoing mentorship from senior team members, Marcus continues to build a strong foundation in IT security, preparing him for a bright future in the industry.
Louis – Starting His Apprenticeship
We are thrilled to welcome our newest apprentice, Louis, who is just beginning his Business Analyst Apprenticeship journey with us. Through our structured apprenticeship support, Louis will receive hands-on training, mentorship working closely with Charlotte, and exposure to real-world challenges, setting the stage for a successful career.

Filling the Cybersecurity Skills Gap
In the 2023/24 academic year, there were 736,500 people participating in an apprenticeship in England, with 339,600 apprenticeship starts and 178,200 apprenticeship achievements. Our apprenticeship support system not only develops technical skills but also ensures that apprentices gain the confidence and experience necessary to succeed. We are also committed to increasing the representation of women in tech, led by our Managing Director, Lyndsey Hayes. Currently, women make up around 26% of IT professionals in the UK, and we are proud to support and encourage more women to pursue careers in this field through apprenticeship programmes. By investing in apprenticeships, we are actively contributing to the future of IT, ensuring that businesses and individuals remain protected in an increasingly digital world.
